Saving Ideas, Insights, and Innovation for the Future of Work

This page collects the resources, ideas, and outcomes from the “Hackathon för ett friskt arbetsliv (Safe & Healthy Workplace Hackathon)” — a collaborative initiative dedicated to shaping the future of workplace health and safety.

About the Hackathon

The Safe & Healthy Workplace Hackathon was initiated by Säkerhetskulturnätverket (SÄKU), with Afa Försäkring as the main sponsor and 2Hero as a key collaboration partner.

Together, we created a collaborative event where people from across industries, organizations, and disciplines could come together to explore how AI and digital innovation can support healthier, safer, and more sustainable workplaces.

The goal was to unlock new possibilities where AI powered solutions can help reduce sickness absence, prevent workplace injuries, and inspire new ways of working that create real, lasting impact and to inspire what is possible given rather limited resources.

The hackathon took place during the first half of 2026 and was open—free of charge—to SÄKU members, labor unions, employer organizations, and anyone passionate about improving occupational health and safety.

The Journey: From Ideas to Innovation

This hackathon was not just an event—it was a journey that began as early as autumn 2025 and unfolded through multiple stages designed to support participants from idea to execution.

1. Idea Collection & Development

In March, the hackathon was presented at two webinars.

Later that same month, participants could join two interactive, workshop-based webinars where they brought forward challenges or ideas and received support to develop them further.

2. Selection of Ideas

A joint steering group from SÄKU, Afa Försäkring (including representatives from the labour and employer organisations Svenskt näringsliv, LO and PTK) and 2Hero reviewed the submissions and selected the most promising ideas.

From 30+ submitted ideas, 15 were selected to move forward into the hackathon. These belonged to the following organisations:

  • Akademiska Hus

  • Arbetsmiljöverket

  • BDX

  • Framna

  • JM & Skanska (in joint collaboration)

  • Maskinentreprenörerna

  • MTO Säkerhet

  • NCC

  • OKG

  • Outokumpu

  • Ovako

  • Prevent

  • Scania

  • Stena Recycling

  • Vattenfall

Have a look at them below!

3. Kickoff & Team Formation

In mid May, 15 teams were formed and the journey officially began with an online kickoff, including training and inspiration.

4. Preparation Phase

Participants received coaching, training, and support by 2Hero to prepare their concepts and solutions.

5. Development Day ("Hack day")

The teams came together physically on 2 June to develop demos of their solutions during one full day at the headquarters of founding SÄKU member AFRY.

The day was something truly special—an explosion of creativity, energy, and meaningful connections. Participants from different sectors and industries came together, exchanged perspectives, and pushed boundaries.

More than just solutions, the hackathon created:

  • New collaborations across industries

  • Fresh perspectives on workplace health and safety

  • A shared understanding of how AI can support real change and how much can be achieved in so short amount of time

  • A strong sense of community and purpose

At the end of the day, the teams recorded short (circa 5 minutes) video presentations of their solutions. The joint steering group then reviewed all presentations and chose six finalists (a very difficult work indeed).

6. Grand Finale

On 3 June, the journey culminated at Afa Försäkring Headquartes in a final showcase where the six finalist teams presented their solutions to a jury and audience, followed by networking and celebration.

The jury consisted of:

  • Mathias Collén, CEO, Afa Försäkring

  • Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson, Chairman of the Board, Afa Försäkring

  • Jakob Lindström, CIO, Afa Försäkring

  • Ulrika Hektor, Head of R&D, Afa Försäkring

  • Lars-Gunnar Lindberg, Head of the IA System, Afa Försäkring

  • Mats Ekeklint, Head of Collective Agreements and Unit, LO

  • Carina Lindfelt, Head of Department, Svenskt Näringsliv
  • Susan Gustafsson, Executive Vice President and Group General Counsel, AFRY

  • Anders Wimmerstedt, Director of Production, JM

  • Christian Jakobsson, Vice President of Sustainability & EHS Management, Skanska AB
  • Jonas Fröberg, SHE Director Södertälje, AstraZeneca

  • Christoffer Holmstrom, Group Compliance Officer Safety and Security, Stena Metall

  • Ulrika Dolietis, CEO, Håll nollan

  • Susanna Ribrant, CEO, Prevent

  • Patrik Ström, CEO, Playground consulting

  • Nina Burman, Head of IT and Development, Arbetsmiljöverket

  • Carl-Magnus L., CEO, Sunt Arbetsliv

  • Charlotte Runius, CEO, Road Hero

  • Lamin Faye, CEO, Buddywise

  • Mandus Frykman, Chairman of the Board, MTO Säkerhet/Prima Arbetsliv

  • Peter Munck af Rosenschöld, CEO at Swedish Association of Occupational Health and Safety

The jury had a very tough job to chose the winner among the six finalists. Prevent finally got the most votes and was announced as winner for their web-based mobile solution that detects asbestos and provides guidance on how to handle it safely.

Have a look at a video recording of the grand finale below and get inspiration from the six presentations from the finalist teams!

A Collaborative Effort

This hackathon was powered by collaboration at every level.

Without the great support from Afa Försäkring and its great people, it certainly would have been a very different experience. And without 2Hero as the energetic connection between the developers and the idea submitters, as well as providing the technical and inspirational input, we wouldn’t been able to take the further steps.

Once the infrastructure is there, the hackathon puzzle needs its most important jigsaws – the idea submitters and developers!

Thank You!

To everyone who contributed:

Your dedication, creativity, and positive energy made this hackathon more than just an event—it became a shared experience of learning, innovation, and possibility and in that you are all winners!
