What?

Each year, accidents at work result in an estimated 380 000+ fatalities worldwide. In the European Union some 3 700 fatalities happen each year.

In promoting accident prevention at our workplaces and industries, some kind of safety interventions are often implemented and considered to tackle these horrid numbers and the human suffering they cause. But what kind of safety interventions are the most effective and what are the main findings of research done on the subject?

To answer this, SÄKU was happy to welcome the Danish senior researcher Johnny Dyreborg!

Johnny works at the Danish research institution National Research Centre for the Working Environment (Det Nationale Forskningscenter for Arbejdsmiljø) and has been the principle investigator and first author of the immersive study “Safety interventions for the prevention of accidents at work: A systematic review”, published in 2022.

The study is the largest systemic review of its kind and is the result of a collective work effort of eleven people over more than a ten year period. The study and its key findings have attracted a lot of interest from Danish ministries and policy makers. We are very pleased of now having given you the opportunity to have the report presented to you.

As a bonus, Johnny also presented another recent study from 2022 - one that compared differences in OHS efforts between companies that adopted certified OSH management systems and those that did not.

As always, the audience got the chance to discuss and ask Johnny their questions. We also did some Mentimeter online polling.
